Over the past couple of years, work has begun to restore our Skinner Pipe Organ (see it’s history here). Since the leadership of this project was taken up by Luke Pontifell, the work has been slowly progressing to bring the organ back to it’s full glory. Under the skilled hands of Doug McKeever and his experts from Foley-Baker Inc., the most recent improvements included restoring several ranks of pipes that have been silent for years and have added new lighting. Future work is anticipated as soon as funds can be raised to continue.
Luke has been in contact with the head of the organ department at Juilliard and there are plans for him to visit the church to see the organ and is interested in planning a concert series featuring their organists this summer if the instrument is in a bit better shape by then. Also, the head of the early music at Juilliard is similarly interested in integrating his students into our plans. And plans for the fall include the possibility of a visit by the Groton Choir.
Work continues on the Kickstarter Campaign and a lot of video footage has already been taken with more to come. It is hoped to complete this in June so the campaign can go live this summer, with the hopes to raise some vigorous support.
